Today centres on the first review of the OLED MacBook Pro just before the store launch, plus new Gurman rumours, Neo plans and small Siri and iCloud changes.

First review of the OLED touchscreen MacBook Pro: lighter, brighter and roughly $400 pricier

Certain Mac

9to5Mac has tested the new MacBook Pro with a tandem OLED touchscreen. Peak brightness is higher than before, the machine is lighter (the 14-inch drops from 3.5 to 3.0 lb) and performance matches the M5 Pro and M5 Max. The review puts the OLED models about $400 above the mini-LED versions Apple keeps selling.

Gurman: Apple may eventually drop the non-touch MacBook Pro; M7 Pro and Max due in 2027

Medium Mac

According to Mark Gurman's Power On newsletter, keeping two MacBook Pro lines with different screens costs Apple needless effort. He also reports that MacBook Pros with M7 Pro and M7 Max are expected in 2027, with extra AI capabilities. Apple has not confirmed any of this.

MacBook Neo 2 due early 2027; Digitimes says Apple expects to ship around 16 million Neos

High Mac

Mark Gurman reports a second MacBook Neo is planned for early 2027. Digitimes adds that Apple has told suppliers to plan for 16 million units in 2027, roughly double the 8 million or so expected this year. Both come from supply-chain and industry reporting; Apple itself has said nothing.

Apple all but drops the Siri AI waitlist in iOS 27; it now applies only in high-demand periods

Certain iPhone Software

An updated Apple support document says Siri AI now starts downloading straight away, with a waitlist only possible when demand is high. At the iOS 27 launch in September a waitlist was still the normal route.

Update: new iPad mini manages 14 hours of web browsing in a first test, well above Apple's 10-hour claim

Medium iPad

In a Tom's Guide test the OLED iPad mini lasted 14 hours 24 minutes of Wi-Fi browsing, against 10 hours 36 minutes for its predecessor. It was a single run instead of the usual three, so the average could come out lower. The tablet goes on sale Friday.

Apple lets developers show discounts to subscribers who are about to cancel

Certain Software

Retention Messaging, announced at WWDC, is now live. Developers can show a message, image or special offer inside the cancellation flow and set up to ten messages per app in App Store Connect. Unlike Win-Back Offers, it reaches subscribers before they cancel.

iOS 27.3 beta code hints that HomeView will support third-party chatbots

Low Home Software

A leaker spotted signs in the iOS 27.3 beta that HomeView will work with third-party AI chatbots such as ChatGPT and Claude. The feature appears not to be fully wired up yet and Apple has said nothing about it.

Bloomberg: Apple trims employees' AI budgets as Ternus pushes cost cuts

Medium Other

Bloomberg reports the daily AI spending cap for some engineers fell from $300 to $200 last month, with a possible further cut to $100. Other groups already have $100, and $25 has been considered for some teams. The report relies on anonymous sources and Apple has not commented.
