Gurman: touchscreen OLED MacBook Pro due Wednesday, alongside M6 iMac and 14-inch MacBook Pro

High Mac Events

According to Mark Gurman, Apple will reveal 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros with OLED touch displays on October 28, with a Dynamic Island instead of the notch and a lighter body, still on M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. It is expected as a press release, with hands-on time at the Los Angeles event. An M6 iMac and 14-inch MacBook Pro are also expected; the OLED models could cost up to $500 more. None of this is officially confirmed.

iPhone Duo: owners report inner displays cracking on their own along the hinge

High iPhone

9to5Mac counts about ten cases of an inner screen splitting down the centre line, sometimes with a glowing white block of pixels. Bright reports similar complaints from several countries. Apple has not responded; those who went to an Apple Store were mostly handed a replacement straight away, while carrier customers fared worse. How widespread this is remains unclear.

Update: iPhone Duo also fails JerryRigEverything's dust test; grit in the hinge, inner display stops responding

High iPhone

On top of the earlier bend test, the YouTuber let dust enter through several openings in the hinge, which overpowered the magnets keeping the phone shut. The inner display ended up with a permanent green line and then stopped responding. Apple has not commented yet.

First iPhone Duo teardowns: two battery cells, an A20 Pro and a C2 modem; Apple published repair manuals

High iPhone

Two YouTube channels opened up the Duo and found two battery cells (4,883 mAh combined) that release with electrically activated adhesive, an A20 Pro chip and a C2 modem. The USB-C port looks modular, while the Touch ID button is hard to remove. iFixit is expected to follow with a fuller teardown in the coming days.

Verizon offers a $100 gift card over delayed iPhone Duo pre-orders in the US

Certain iPhone Other

Verizon is warning some pre-order customers of an unexpected shipping delay, with revised dates often falling between October 31 and November 14. As an apology it will send a $100 gift card. This applies to US customers; at Apple itself new online orders still ship in late January.

Apple is looking at letting Safari use more of the iPhone Duo's outer display

Medium iPhone Software

In Safari 27.1 pages stay confined to the space beside the side-mounted controls, leaving little usable width. According to MacRumors, Apple is exploring a way for sites to extend backgrounds under those controls while keeping links and content visible. No approach or timeline has been settled.

Apple and the DOJ clash over how recent the evidence in the antitrust case should be

High Other

The Justice Department wants Apple to hand over documents created after the agreed June 20, 2025 cutoff, since evidence gathering runs until late May 2027. Apple says that would delay the case by months and points to more than 11 million documents already reviewed. The court now has to decide.

Next up: Wednesday October 28: 'Pro and tell' event in Los Angeles; iOS 27.2 and watchOS 27.2 are expected this week.
