Apple opens app submissions for the iPhone Duo and a second launch wave in late October appears to follow, while beta code points to touch input on the Mac.
Apple is expected to present a second set of products in late October, likely Macs
Medium Events Mac iPad
Several sources say Apple will show new products in the last week of October, after the home hub, HomePod mini and Apple TV 4K on 13 October. Macs are the most likely candidates: OLED MacBooks with a thinner and lighter design, a 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 and an iMac with M6. Apple earlier promised a Mac Studio with M5 Ultra and 512GB of RAM in “late October”; the OLED iPad mini is also expected this month, but its timing is unclear.
Apple opens App Store submissions for iPhone Duo apps
Certain Software iPhone
Apple has announced that apps optimised for the iPhone Duo can now be submitted for review; the device launches on 23 October. Existing apps work without changes, but only apps built with the iOS 27.1 SDK or later resize to fill the whole inner display; the rest get black borders. Developers can prepare with Xcode 27.1 and tips on Apple’s developer site.
Apple releases third beta of iOS 27.2, with revamped Health app
Certain Software iPhone
Two weeks after the second beta, developers received beta 3 of iOS 27.2 and iPadOS 27.2. The update includes a redesigned Health app with Insight and Longevity tabs and Siri AI in more languages. That 27.2 is arriving before 27.1 is notable, since 27.1 ships with the iPhone Duo; Apple may be holding back some Duo features for longer.
Code in macOS 27.2 beta 3 points to touch gestures in Safari, Photos, Notes and Quick Look
Medium Mac Software
The new beta contains touch gesture recognisers: a “touch sentinel” in Safari, a dwell gesture in Photos, a touch-press gesture in Notes and touch dragging in Quick Look. It could be preparation for a touchscreen MacBook, but may also relate to Sidecar, where full touch input has already been added. The purpose is therefore not confirmed.
Code in tvOS 27.2 points to a Siri and Apple Intelligence setting for the new Apple TV
Medium Home Software
The beta contains a toggle labelled “Improve Siri & Apple Intelligence”, which lets you share text and audio use of Siri, dictation and translation to help improve Apple’s models. A new Siri messages framework suggests Siri may later show messages from a linked iPhone. Apple is said to be working on an Apple TV with 8GB or 12GB of RAM and an A19 or A19 Pro chip, which could arrive as soon as 13 October.
Apple Cash requires an ID check for reloads from 9 November
Certain Other
Green Dot Bank, the issuer of Apple Cash, requires identity verification before you can reload your balance from 9 November; Apple told customers by email. Today that check already applies when adding, sending or receiving more than $500. Unverified users cannot send, receive or add money, but can still spend their balance or transfer it to a bank; Apple Cash only exists in the US.
Apple One Family and Premier get pricier in several European countries
Certain Other
Apple is raising the price of Apple One Family in twelve countries, including Belgium, Denmark, Spain, Portugal and Switzerland, and that of Premier in Portugal, Spain and Switzerland. In Spain and Portugal both plans go up by 2 euros a month; existing subscribers notice it at their next renewal. The Netherlands is not on the list and Apple One Individual stays the same for now.
Apple tests measuring Google’s Chrome promotions in Safari
Medium Software
Since the second beta of iOS 27.2, Safari contains code that detects Google banners promoting Chrome or the Google app and records whether users engage with or dismiss them. That it will ship in the final version is not confirmed and Apple has not documented it. The reason is unclear; it comes amid scrutiny of browser competition, including in the UK and the EU.
Next up: 13 October: expected home products; last week of October: expected Macs; 23 October: iPhone Duo on sale; 9 November: ID check for Apple Cash
