Gurman reports in his newsletter an Apple event on 13 October, a much lighter OLED MacBook Pro and a CEO who is closely involved in design.

Gurman: Apple holds an event on 13 October for home hub, HomePod mini and Apple TV 4K

High Events Home

In his weekly newsletter Gurman writes that Apple is planning an event on Tuesday 13 October. A smart home hub, a new HomePod mini and a new 4K Apple TV are expected. He had earlier named the same date and products without saying whether there would be an event; Apple itself has confirmed nothing.

Gurman: OLED MacBook Pros will be significantly lighter than current models

High Mac

According to Gurman, Apple has re-engineered the interior with smaller parts and a different layout, making the MacBook Pros with OLED and a touchscreen noticeably lighter; he does not give a weight. A Dynamic Island in place of the notch and the existing M5 Pro and M5 Max chips are also expected. The device is said to arrive in October or November and be priced above the current MacBook Pros.

John Ternus makes product design a “major priority” as Apple CEO

High Other

According to Gurman, Ternus, CEO since September, is much more closely involved with the industrial design and human interface teams than his predecessor: he visits the design studio several times a week, sometimes more than once a day. Cook is said to have visited for an hour a month at most. Because Ternus has an engineering background, he leaves finance to CFO Kevan Parekh and the supply chain to Sabih Khan; according to the report Apple is not looking for a successor to Jony Ive.

Next up: 13 October: expected event for home products; October or November: expected OLED MacBook Pro
