The Apple Rumor Mill
What we've picked up about Apple
Updated every morning. The last seven days stay up, newest first. If an update fails, the previous version simply stays in place.
Last updated:
Monday 19 October 2026
The Mac event is getting closer (27 or 28 October), while the iPhone Duo runs into stock and delivery limits.
Update: Mac reveal on 27 or 28 October, new Macs and iPad mini in stores around 6 November
HighMaciPadEvents
According to Gurman, relayed by MacRumors, Apple is lining up new products on four Fridays in a row, with the OLED MacBook Pros, the M6 14-inch MacBook Pro and iMac, and the OLED iPad mini landing on 6 November. 9to5Mac also points to 6 November and now cites 27 or 28 October as the likely reveal. Apple has confirmed neither the date nor the lineup.
Update: iPhone Duo unlikely to be available as a walk-in buy at launch, delivery slips to late January
HighiPhone
Store staff have reportedly been told there will be no stock on 23 October for customers without a pre-order, 9to5Mac says, citing MacRumors. Gurman calls opening pre-orders a major mistake since Apple knew supply was tight; within half an hour the estimated delivery moved to around 25 January.
iPhone Duo battery is 4,883 mAh, an EU filing shows
CertainiPhone
An EU energy label from Apple reveals the iPhone Duo's battery capacity at 4,883 mAh, split over two cells. That places it between the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max. Apple rates video playback at 44 hours on the outer screen and 31 hours on the inner screen.
iPhone 2027 outlook: iPhone 18 in spring, iPhone 20 Pro in the fall
LowiPhone
9to5Mac rounds up the 2027 rumours: the standard iPhone 18 and 18e arrive in spring, alongside a reworked iPhone Air 2. In the fall a heavily redesigned iPhone 20 Pro follows, with very thin bezels and possibly under-display Face ID, plus a Duo successor. Most of this is still rumour.
iPhone Handoff will cost 5 to 10 a month at carriers
HighiPhoneOther
iPhone Handoff lets you switch one mobile number between two iPhones. EE in the UK charges 5 pounds a month unless you are on its top plan. T-Mobile asks 5 dollars and Verizon 10 dollars. Apple says the feature will be available before the end of 2026.
macOS 27 removes Rosetta: older Intel apps may silently stop working
MediumMacSoftware
According to 9to5Mac, installing macOS 27 strips out the Rosetta translation layer, and macOS 28 will not support it at all. Regular apps prompt for a reinstall, but some menu bar utilities quietly stop working. Admins are advised to audit for Intel-only software before rolling out.
Next up: 23 Oct: iPhone Duo in stores; 27/28 Oct: expected Mac event (unconfirmed); 30 Oct: HomePod mini 2; 6 Nov: expected Macs; 13 Nov: HomeView and Apple TV 4K
Sunday 18 October 2026
Touchscreen MacBook possibly on 6 November, and criticism of the Duo pre-orders.
First touchscreen MacBook could reach stores on 6 November
HighMacSoftware
According to Gurman the MacBook Pro could arrive on 6 November. It gets a tandem OLED screen, a smaller Dynamic Island without Face ID and the existing M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, as the M6 Pro and Max were reportedly skipped. macOS 27 betas contain hints of touch input.
Gurman: iPhone Duo pre-orders were a 'major mistake'
HighiPhone
According to Gurman, Apple started pre-orders on 16 October knowing supply would be severely limited, in more than 70 countries at once instead of the US and China first. Within half an hour delivery dates slid to around 25 January. That will disappoint many early adopters.
iPhone Duo has a 4,883 mAh battery, an EU filing shows
CertainiPhone
An Apple EU filing, posted after pre-orders opened, lists two cells of 2,962 and 1,921 mAh. That puts the Duo between the iPhone 17 Pro Max and the 16 Pro Max. Apple rates video playback at 44 hours on the outer screen and 31 hours on the inner screen.
Next HomeView could get a rotating robotic arm (report)
MediumHome
According to Gurman, Apple is working on a pricier 'HomeView Pro' with a screen of about 9 inches on a motorised arm that rotates 360 degrees and turns toward whoever is speaking. It would arrive in 2027 or 2028; Apple has said nothing about it.
Overview: the 2027 iPhone line-up according to rumors
LowiPhone
Spring 2027 is said to bring an iPhone 18, 18e and a delayed iPhone Air 2; in the fall the iPhone 20 Pro with a redesign and an iPhone Duo 2 follow. Most of it comes from earlier, unconfirmed rumors.
Next up: Possible Mac and iPad mini reveal on 27 or 28 October, not yet confirmed
Saturday 17 October 2026
Weekend: focus on the iPhone Duo launch and iPhone Handoff.
iPhone Duo may be hard to buy in stores on launch day without a pre-order
MediumiPhone
According to MacRumors, store staff were told there will likely be no stock for walk-in customers on launch day. Apple's site points to 24 October to check again, but that is no guarantee. The device is reportedly sold out through January.
EE is the first UK carrier to publish iPhone Handoff pricing
HighiPhoneSoftware
UK carrier EE has published pricing for iPhone Handoff, the first in the United Kingdom to do so. Verizon, T-Mobile and Deutsche Telekom had already named their rates for the iOS 27 feature.
Apple's official silicone iPhone Duo case needs adhesive
MediumiPhoneOther
Buyers report that Apple's silicone case for the iPhone Duo has to be fixed with adhesive to stay on. These are user reports, not a statement from Apple.
macOS 27 removes Rosetta: admins prepare their Mac fleets
HighMacSoftware
In a 9to5Mac column an IT manager describes how he is preparing his Macs for the removal of Rosetta in macOS 27, which lets Intel apps run on Apple chips. Anyone still using Intel-only software needs to look for alternatives in time.
Next up: iPhone Duo: first deliveries and store sales from 23 October
Friday 16 October 2026
The iPhone Duo is open for pre-order and demand is huge from the start.
iPhone Duo open for pre-order: from $1,999 for 256GB, first deliveries 23 October
CertainiPhone
Apple opens pre-orders for its first foldable iPhone from $1,999 (256GB), with 512GB, 1TB and 2TB at $2,199, $2,599 and $3,199. The outer screen is 5.4 inches and unfolds to 7.6 inches inside. It has an A20 Pro and two 48-megapixel cameras.
Apple calls iPhone Duo demand 'extraordinary', delivery estimates run into January
CertainiPhone
Apple tells CNBC that pre-order demand is 'extraordinary' and keeps taking online orders. Estimated delivery dates quickly slid from late October to January, and to February in some countries. Listings on eBay and X ask up to $10,000.
HomeView open for pre-order, with 19 apps at launch
CertainHome
HomeView can now be ordered and ships on 13 November. Launch apps include FaceTime, Music, Podcasts, Calendar, Safari, Weather and Intercom. Audiobooks, Classical Music, News and TV need an iPhone. Existing CarPlay apps such as Spotify are expected to work too.
iPhone Handoff costs $5 to $10 a month at carriers
HighiPhoneSoftware
The new iOS 27 feature lets two iPhones share one number. Verizon charges $10 a month, T-Mobile $5, and at Deutsche Telekom it comes with MultiSIM (€6.95 a month unless the plan already covers it). AT&T does not seem to plan support.
Next up: First iPhone Duos are delivered on 23 October
Thursday 15 October 2026
Gurman: Apple is inviting media for 28 October, and four weeks of launches are coming.
Gurman: Apple to show new Macs and iPad mini on 28 October in Los Angeles
HighMaciPadEvents
According to Bloomberg, Apple is inviting selected media to a launch day on 28 October. Expected are 14- and 16-inch touchscreen OLED MacBook Pros, M6 versions of the 14-inch MacBook Pro and the iMac, and an OLED iPad mini. Apple has confirmed nothing.
Four Fridays of launches in a row: 23 and 30 October, 6 and 13 November
MediumMaciPadiPhone
Confirmed are the iPhone Duo (23 October), the HomePod mini 2 (30 October), and HomeView and Apple TV 4K (13 November). According to Gurman the new Macs and the iPad mini reach stores on 6 November, because Apple Stores plan a display reset on the evening of 5 November.
Apple lists an unannounced Smart Folio for a new iPad mini
MediumiPad
Apple's French regulatory site lists a Smart Folio with a new model number (A3632) for an iPad mini that does not exist yet. The case contains more rare earth elements, which could point to different magnets. That hints at a new design, so existing cases may no longer fit.
Ternus on the iPhone Duo: early foldables were poorly made
CertainiPhoneSoftware
In an interview with TIME, Apple chief John Ternus says Apple has worked on foldable displays since 2011 and that rivals did it badly at first. Apple only shipped the device once it was ready. He also says Apple does not need to build everything itself, and that Gemini is used for part of Apple Intelligence.
Next up: iPhone Duo: pre-orders open Friday 16 October
Wednesday 14 October 2026
A quiet day after the launch: which apps will run on HomeView.
HomeView gets video apps like YouTube and Netflix only if they opt in
HighHomeSoftware
An updated CarPlay developer guide shows that audio and video apps with CarPlay support appear on HomeView without changes. For video services such as YouTube, Netflix and Disney+ that means they must first support CarPlay video, so it is up to those companies.
Next up: iPhone Duo: pre-orders open Friday 16 October
Tuesday 13 October 2026
Apple unveiled HomeView, a new Apple TV 4K and HomePod mini 2.
HomeView officially announced: 7-inch screen, $299, ships 13 November
CertainHome
Apple's smart home display can sit on a counter or hang on a wall, runs an A18 chip with a camera, recognises up to six faces and has Siri AI built in. Pre-orders are open in the US, Canada, the UK and Australia, among others. HomeView is not sold in the EU.
New Apple TV 4K ($299) and HomePod mini 2 ($149) announced

The Apple TV 4K gets an A19 chip, an AV1 decoder and a new Siri Remote, and arrives on 13 November. The HomePod mini 2 has an S10 chip and a light display that pulses with the music, and goes on sale on 30 October. Siri AI for the HomePod mini follows later, with no date.
HomeView will run third-party apps, but details are still thin
HighHomeSoftware
Apple says HomeView works with compatible audio and video apps from the iPhone, and some apps need an iPhone nearby. How that works and what developers have to do is still unclear. Wired reports that existing CarPlay apps such as Spotify show up after setup.
