Apple confirms cellular problem on iPhone 18 Pro Max on AT&T; affected devices get replaced

Certain iPhone

A small number of iPhone 18 Pro Max units on AT&T lose their cellular connection and show “SOS” instead of the carrier name, so calls, texts and data stop working. Apple released iOS 27.0.1 and a carrier settings update to reduce the risk for other users, but devices that have already dropped out do not recover from it and need a hardware replacement. The US Pro Max uses a Qualcomm modem; the iPhone 18 Pro with Apple’s C2 modem is not affected.

Apple announces tighter control over Full Disk Access in macOS because of AI agents

Certain Software

In a post on its developer blog, Apple explains that the “Full Disk Access” permission is mainly meant for backup apps but is sometimes used in ways that could expose files, email, messages and browsing history. Apple wants only users who truly want it to be able to grant it, and only through a very explicit action. How it will work and when it arrives, Apple does not say yet.

Home hub, HomePod mini and Apple TV 4K on 13 October: will there be an event?

High Home Events

According to Gurman, Apple will unveil a smart home hub, a new HomePod mini and an Apple TV 4K with Siri AI on Tuesday 13 October, but he does not say whether that happens through an event. If there is an event, invitations could follow between Monday 5 and Wednesday 7 October. Apple has also made Mac announcements through press releases before, for example in October 2024 and 2025.

Texas school district switches from Chromebooks to iPads and MacBook Neos

High iPad Mac Other

The school board in Beaumont, Texas approved a four-year lease worth about $11.2 million for 14,585 Apple devices: more than 4,000 iPads and roughly 10,500 MacBook Neos for students and teachers. The old Chromebooks were often more than five years old and cost close to half a million dollars a year in repairs and support. The district judged the MacBook Neo to outperform comparable Lenovo and Asus models and found Apple’s financing more favourable.

Apple SouthGate in Bath reopens on 23 October, the day the iPhone Duo launches

High iPhone Other

The store in Bath, England reopens on Friday 23 October after more than three months of renovation, exactly on the iPhone Duo’s launch day. Apple permanently closed its central Bristol store in 2025; Apple Cribbs Causeway on the edge of that city stays open. Apple Lakeside in Essex was also renovated and reopened in September.
