The smart home story widens with LG accessories and a list of more than seven products for October, and Apple sets the date for its quarterly earnings.
LG makes seven smart home devices for Apple’s home platform
High Home
Filings LG made with the US regulator FCC and with UL Solutions show the company is making a doorbell, thermostat, smart deadbolt, temperature sensor and three types of camera; Apple is not named. According to Gurman, Apple helped develop them and LG builds and brands the products itself. They are expected only in a few months, after the home hub tipped for 13 October.
Apple is expected to release more than seven new products in October
High Events Home Mac
Expected on 13 October: a new Apple TV 4K, a home hub with a touchscreen and a HomePod mini 2, all built around Siri AI. After that come a MacBook Pro with an OLED touchscreen, a 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 and an iMac with M6, and according to Gurman an OLED iPad mini around the same time. Apart from the iPhone Duo (pre-orders 16 October, delivery from 23 October), Apple has confirmed none of this.
Apple reports fourth-quarter results on 2 November
Certain Other
According to Apple’s investor relations page, results come out on Monday 2 November at 1:30 p.m. Pacific Time (10:30 p.m. Dutch time), followed by a call with CEO John Ternus and CFO Kevan Parekh. The quarter runs from 28 June to 26 September and includes the first sales week of the iPhone 18 Pro; the iPhone Duo only launches on 23 October and therefore does not count. Analysts are expected to look at memory prices, supply constraints and expectations for the holiday quarter.
Teardown: Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 both score 4 out of 10 for repairability
High Watch
The Series 12 scores one point higher than its predecessor: a stretch-release adhesive strip with pull tab makes the battery easier to remove, but replacing the screen now also means taking out the battery. The Ultra 4, which keeps the same score as its predecessor, still needs the glued screen removed to swap the battery. For comparison, Google’s Pixel Watch 5 got a 9.
iOS 27.2 beta 3: new Apple Music logo, revamped Books and tweaked battery icon
High Software
The Apple Music logo gets a bolder typeface with a lowercase “m” and shows up in the sign-up flow; the same logo was earlier used for Apple Music Hall in London. In Books the reading view gets a Liquid Glass menu and a progress bar, and the battery icon and the launch screens of Fitness and Apple TV are slightly changed. A setting to switch off suggested actions in Messages is still in development.
macOS 27.2 beta 3: long-pressing a Dock icon gives an iPhone-style animation
Medium Mac Software
Press and hold a Dock icon and it grows slightly, as when long-pressing an app on iPhone or iPad. Together with the touch gestures in the same beta, commentators see this as a possible sign of a touchscreen MacBook; that is not confirmed. Apple is said to be preparing 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros with an OLED touchscreen that could arrive in October or November.
Apple must pay more than $184 million in interest in the Masimo case; total about $818 million
High Watch Other
In July the judge upheld the $634 million verdict from November 2025 over a Masimo pulse-oximetry patent and has now ordered Apple to pay about $184 million in pre-judgment interest, bringing the total to roughly $818 million. He rejected Masimo’s request for a 7 percent rate and used Masimo’s own borrowing rate. The patent expired in June 2022, so the ruling does not affect heart-rate features in current models.
Rumour: Apple TV 4K may drive four HomePods for surround sound
Medium Home
The leaker pdfu says Apple tested four HomePods connected to an Apple TV 4K for surround, with speakers at front left and right and rear left and right. The third audioOS 27.2 beta contains code with a line saying Siri can match a speaker to its surround system, and macOS 27.2 beta 3 includes new symbols showing four speakers in a room. It is unclear whether new HomePods or the new Apple TV are required; today an Apple TV 4K can already use two HomePods as stereo.
Next up: 13 October: expected home products (Gurman); 23 October: iPhone Duo on sale; 2 November: earnings
